Time 4 Learning

So the time has come for me to submit my review. I have many positives and negative to report  on this program, but before I get into the technicalities of the program and the things that worked and didn't work for us I would like to start with how Connor took to the program.

Connor, for the most part, liked it and looked forward to working on it independently everyday. He enjoyed the videos and the music and the interactive lessons and scored very well on most of the graded assignments.

Now some of the negatives I found with the program:
1. It took too long explaining how to do each question and then there weren't enough questions to actually practice. For example: It would tell the child how to do the question and then it would do a sample question. Within the sample it would explain once more how to do it and why each particular answer was wrong before showing the child the right answer. Then it would follow up with only 2 or 3 questions for the child to actually answer independently.

2. There did not seem to be enough activities. We had a 1 month trial and finished all of the Science activities for the first grade in 2 and 1/2 weeks. We also finished 2/3 of the language arts curriculum for Kindergarten in the full month and that is only using it 20 days out of the month. We tried the math section but the concepts were mostly ones he had covered in preschool like patterns, shapes and sizes and he didn't enjoy them.

Some positives with this program:
1. Connor was able with this program to work completely independently. After the first couple of lessons I was able to leave him alone in the school room with the computer and just check on him every 5-10 minutes to make sure he wasn't having any problems.

2. It is a program that children enjoy. He really liked the videos and the music. He would sing the songs right along with the elephant, and belt it out for the whole house to hear. He really had fun learning.

With all said and done this is a program I would pay to use for kindergarten but probably only for a month or 2 every year. There doesn't seem to be enough material to use it for more than that length of time even if it were just for tutoring and not for full time homeschooling.

As for the preschool curriculum. It is not graded and both preschoolers I had using it found it difficult to do independently and the material was not complete enough to be used on its own. Overall I would not use the preschool section again.

I would, though, like to take the time to thank time4learning.com for the opportunity to try their material and see how it works with the kids I love and work with everyday!
